You’re living within a cosmic storybook!
There are many scientific truths in the Holy Qur’an. For example, it suggests that the Universe is expanding and describes Earth as being egg-shaped:
He is the One Who has created the heavens and earth with a definite purpose. He rolls the night over the day, and rolls the day over the night. And He has subjected the sun and the moon, each running along its course for a term appointed. Is He not the Almighty, the Absolver of Imperfections?
[Yukawwir = ‘He rolls’ comes from the word Kurah = Ball. In verse 79:30 (below) an additional point is given that the earth is egg-shaped with its north and south poles compressed. This was unknown and even impossible to know in the 7th century.]
79:30 And after that, He made the earth shoot out from the Cosmic Nebula and spread it out oval (flattened at the poles – an oblate spheroid). [Dhahaha entails all the meanings rendered. 21:30, 41:11]
21:30 Are the disbelievers not aware that the heavens and earth used to be one solid mass and We exploded them asunder? And that out of water We made every living thing? Will they not, then, acknowledge the truth?
[Here is a clear allusion to the Big Bang theory. Numerous celestial bodies came into being and started swimming along in their orbits. Almost all modern astrophysicists believe that this Universe has originated as one entity from one single element, hydrogen that, in stages, became consolidated with gravity and then broke apart into celestial bodies.]

Physicists are now also learning that the Universe is flat-shaped. This theory of a flat universe seems to be endorsed by the Quran because it describes the “skies” (or heavens) as being like “scrolls” – and scrolls are always flat-shaped!
[Quran 21:103-104] The supreme awesomeness [of the Day of Resurrection] will cause them no grief, since the angels will receive them with the greeting, “This is your Day [of triumph – the Day] which you were promised!” (21:104) On that Day We shall roll up the skies as written scrolls are rolled up; [and] as We brought into being the first creation, so We shall bring it forth anew [a new universe] a promise which We have willed upon Ourselves: for, behold, We are able to do [all things]!
The Quran suggests many “skies” or heavens, so this may also endorse the “multiverse” theory – the theory that our universe could be just one of an infinite number of universes, like one universe dimension above another. Perhaps the jinns/demons reside in a parallel universe or “scroll” next to ours, although they have more of an ability to observe us than we do of observing them:
“The term jinn is also applied to a wide range of phenomena which, according to most of the classical commentators, indicate certain sentient organisms of so fine a nature and of a physiological composition so different from our own that they are not normally accessible to our sense-perception. We know, of course, very little as to what can and what cannot play the role of a living organism; moreover, our inability to discern and observe such phenomena is by no means a sufficient justification for a denial of their existence. The Qur’an refers often to “the realm which is beyond the reach of human perception” (al-ghayb), while God is frequently spoken of as “the Sustainer of all the worlds” (rabb al-alamin): and the use of the plural clearly indicates that side by side with the “world” open to our observation there are other “worlds” as well – and, therefore, other forms of life, different from ours and presumably from one another, and yet subtly interacting and perhaps even permeating one another in a manner beyond our ken. And if we assume, as we must, that there are living organisms whose biological premises are entirely different from our own, it is only logical to assume that our physical senses can establish contact with them only under very exceptional circumstances: hence the description of them as “invisible beings”. Now that occasional, very rare crossing of paths between their life-mode and ours may well give rise to strange – because unexplainable manifestations, which man’s primitive fantasy has subsequently interpreted as ghosts, demons and other such “supernatural” apparitions.”

The Universe will also shrink: “The Day that We roll up the heavens like a scroll rolled up for books (completed),- even as We produced the first creation, so shall We produce a new one: a promise We have undertaken: truly shall We fulfil it. (The Noble Quran, 21:104)“
The Galaxies of the Universe will all explode: “And when the heaven splitteth asunder and becometh ROSY-LIKE PAINT – (The Noble Quran, 55:37)“
“The universe starts with a Big Bang, expands to a maximum dimension, then recontracts and collapses (to the Big Crunch); no more awe-inspiring prediction was ever made.” Quotation from Charles W. Misner, Kip S. Thorne and John A. Wheeler in “Gravitation”, W. H. Freeman, San Francisco, 1973, page 1196.
The Expansion of the Universe
In the Qur’an, which was revealed 14 centuries ago at a time when the science of astronomy was still primitive, the expansion of the universe was described like this:
“And it is We who have constructed the heaven with might, and verily, it is We who are steadily expanding it.”
(The Qur’an, 51:47)
The word “heaven”, as stated in this verse, is used in various places in the Qur’an with the meaning of space and universe. Here again, the word is used with this meaning. In other words, in the Qur’an it is revealed that the universe “expands”. And this is the very conclusion that science has reached today.
Until the dawn of the 20th century, the only view prevailing in the world of science was that “the universe has a constant nature and it has existed since infinite time”. The research, observations, and calculations carried out by means of modern technology, however, have revealed that the universe in fact had a beginning, and that it constantly “expands“.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the Russian physicist Alexander Friedmann and the Belgian cosmologist Georges Lemaitre theoretically calculated that the universe is in constant motion and that it is expanding.
Edwin Hubble with his giant telescope
This fact was proved also by observational data in 1929. While observing the sky with a telescope, Edwin Hubble, the American astronomer, discovered that the stars and galaxies were constantly moving away from each other. A universe where everything constantly moves away from everything else implied a constantly expanding universe. The observations carried out in the following years verified that the universe is constantly expanding. This fact was explained in the Qur’an when that was still unknown to anyone. This is because the Qur’an is the word of God, the Creator, and the Ruler of the entire universe.
From the moment of the big bang, the universe has been constantly expanding at a great speed. Scientists compare the expanding universe to the surface of a balloon that is inflated.
It seems that we’re all living within the heavenly pages of “the mother of all books”- a real cosmic interactive storybook! William Shakespeare once stated that “the whole world’s a stage”, and so, it seems, we really are all just characters playing our own individual roles within a never-ending story, after all!
